Role Overview

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking enthusiastic Maternity Healthcare Support Workers to join the team at Princess Alexandra Wing, Royal Cornwall Hospital. The role supports the midwifery team in delivering high standards of care to women and their babies.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of care by assisting clinical staff while respecting the individual needs, rights, beliefs, and preferences of each woman.

This is an opportunity to join a progressive team supporting women through pregnancy and early motherhood.

Main Duties

  • Support midwifery staff with clinical duties
  • Build rapport with mothers and families and communicate needs to midwives
  • Assist women with personal hygiene and postnatal care while respecting privacy and preferences
  • Record and report changes in skin condition, bodily functions, and clinical observations
  • Assist with eating and drinking, ensuring appropriate diet and fluid intake
  • Maintain accurate intake and care records
  • Report any changes or concerns to the Registered Midwife
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Perform clerical duties as directed by the Ward Manager

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • NVQ Level 2 (Health) or Healthcare Certificate
  • Maths and English grade C or above
  • Experience within a care setting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable skills include venepuncture and knowledge of infant feeding support, with training provided where needed.
