About the Role

As Backend Engineer, the successful candidate will play a critical role in building and scaling the infrastructure that powers nsave’s financial services. Reporting to the CTO, the role involves working closely with the CEO and the broader engineering team to architect, ship, and scale resilient, high-performance systems serving tens of thousands of users across multiple jurisdictions.

Who You Are

  • Breadth in platform and infrastructure: Familiar with backend architecture, databases, site reliability, infrastructure as code, and continuous deployment to support scalable systems
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: Enjoys building and optimising systems with strong knowledge of clean software principles, layered abstractions, and trade-offs
  • A supportive teammate: Focused on operational health and enabling other engineers to ship efficiently while improving developer experience
  • Business-oriented decision maker: Technical decisions informed by product and business context, balancing speed versus quality
  • Comfortable designing secure systems: Able to build secure financial systems and manage high-security requirements
  • Experience in fintech, startups, or regulated environments is a plus

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Design, implement, and own critical subsystems of infrastructure including service architecture, reliability, build and release, security, and compliance integrations
  • Improve system compliance and health by identifying weaknesses and prioritising fixes
  • Adapt quickly to changing requirements in a fast-moving environment
  • Support team growth by driving best practices, participating in interviews, defining engineering processes, and mentoring teammates
